The Installation Process of a Residential Lift

How Much Space Do Residential Lifts Need?

The answer to this question depends on the number of floors the lift will be designed for as well as where in the building the elevator will be installed.

Generally, however, a residential lift requires space of at least 20 to 25 square feet — not including the roughly eight inches of pit space that could need digging into the ground under the lift.

If you are going for a residential lift cab of standard size, it will likely be approximately three feet wide and four feet deep — in which case, the lift shaft would have to be at least four feet in width and five feet in depth.

Though you might be willing to consider a smaller-than-average residential lift, keep in mind that you could struggle to get too many people into it before a feeling of claustrophobia creeps in.
