Providing a brand-new community hub at the heart of Barnsley, the development is expected to bring around 25 shops in total complete with up to 500 car parking spaces. The town centre’s existing multi-storey car park was demolished at the end of January with much of the rubble being kept on site and recycled to use during the next phase of the re-development.
Think retail stores, cafes, restaurants and leisure pursuits to really modernise the town. The indoor market will be fully refurbished whilst new shops will be added behind it on Lambra Road along with a bowling alley and cinema.
Library @The Lightbox will hold a commanding position with its striking glass design and provide an innovative space for all ages with quiet zones for study and reflection and computer terminals.
Market kitchen is located on the upper floor of the market hall and will provide a brand-new eating experience with outlets and units available for lease, and three of the traditional market cafes are already open.
Barnsley markets will now be adjoining with the refurbishment of the Metropolitan centre – providing a new, modern and spacious environment.
