Back in July of last year I told you about Sheridan Lifts involvement with the installation of new lifts at the brand new Sedburgh Sports & Leisure Centre in Sedburgh itself. We were appointed by our client ISG for this job. Read our case study for ISG here.
Well, I’m delighted to report that the sports centre opened to great fanfare on 16 November 2019 at a cost of £17.5m. It replaces the former Richard Dunn Centre as a hub for leisure in the community.
I’ve included a few pictures here for you. The wheelchair access pool features a rising platform that allows users to lower themselves into the water. A second pool features a retractable floor allowing for transformation into a multi-use toddler/games and aqua spinning pool.
The modern and stylish changing rooms and washing facilities also feature adjustable height sinks.
Other key highlights include the state of the art gymnasium, and sports hall which features markings for badminton, basketball, handball, hockey, 5 a side and volley ball. Upper floor facilities include studios for dance, boot camp style classes and spinning – and they look down on the swimming pools below.
New sports fields have also been provided on site and outdoor pitches have been constructed but need to ‘settle’ before being ready to use.
And now onto the lifts! Take a look below. We are really pleased with the end product
Commenting on the potential of the new sports centre before its opening was Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Healthy People and Places:
“This much needed new facility will offer the latest facilities in a modern and energy efficient environment. We hope that when the leisure centre does open residents will come along and have a look at what is on offer and enjoy using the new facilities.”
We are sure that this excellent facility will be of great benefit to the people of Sedburgh and beyond.
