Movember – Stop men dying too young
Men’s health is something that has received the ‘stiff upper lip’ treatment for too long. Since 2003 Movember are stamping that out being the only charity that focus on men’s health on a global scale.
By revolutionising men’s research Movember are approaching the way health services reach and support men.
Men are dying too young
Raising awareness by bringing health and social issues for men into the spotlight is an important part of Movember’s work. Some of the biggest issues men are facing are:
- Prostate cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Mental health
- Suicide
The Movember Foundation fund Phd studentships at the forefront of bioinformatics research led doctorates that help to revolutionise the way testicular and prostate cancer is researched – a massive step towards eliminating cancer for good.
- Their Annual Awareness and Education Programme helps to raise awareness of health risks to men, it informs them on how to live a healthier life.
- The Social Innovators Challenge is another project that is funded by The Movember Foundation. It supports the trial of innovative ways to bring men together and get them talking about their health. It is an important aspect of their suicide prevention bid and promotes raising awareness of men’s mental and physical health issues.
Movember aim to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25% in 2030.
In the month of November men support each other by registering their official moustache with Movember – friends and family sponsor the month’s growth and the proceeds are passed to Movember – who fund men’s lifesaving projects.
Although today is the last day of November you can give to the Movember Foundation at any time on their website and help to support and fund these ground breaking projects saving men’s lives.
