Here at Sheridan Lifts, we have been installing disabled lifts in people’s homes for a number of years now. As a lift company, we think it’s important that people have the freedom to move about their home as they wish, even if they are physically unable to keep up with the demand that it puts on their body. As we get older, we all have a little trouble getting around as well as we did when we were 25 years old. There’s certainly less chance of us running up and down the stairs that’s for sure! That’s why disabled lifts for the home are so important – not everyone wishes to downside to a bungalow!
That’s why we were so excited to read about a new kind of home lift that may revolutionise disabled lifts as we know it. As a lift company, we’re always looking for new and exciting developments in lift technology and we were certainly not left disappointed with a ‘Star Trek’-like lift that is able to move between the floors of a standard home.
There is no need to build a shaft or floor pit as the hydraulic mechanism is entirely hidden. With the lift taking up just a few feet of space in terms of width, it’s a real space-saver but manages to include handrails, a seat, a glass door, downlights and can hold up to two people.
Other features these, new style of home disabled lifts, include:
- External and internal controls
- Fire protection
- Minimal visual impact
- Pressure sensitive safety surfaces
- Security safe doors
- Battery backup
The Star Trek-like disabled lifts cost between £13,000 and £15,000 and the lift company that have invented them have sold 200 in the UK over the past three years. Looks like the face of disabled lifts for the home is changing!
